How much does it cost to build an AI app in India in 2026?

Real numbers from our studio: what a ₹1L AI MVP includes, when you should budget ₹5L+, and why the cheapest quote is usually the most expensive decision.

How much does it cost to build an AI app in India in 2026?

Every founder asks it in the first call, and most agencies dodge it. We publish our numbers instead — because transparent pricing is the fastest way to build trust.

Here is what building an AI product in India actually costs in 2026, based on what we charge at Edifio and what we see across the market.

The three real cost tiers

1. The focused MVP — from ₹1,00,000

This is our Build package's starting point, and it is the honest floor for a production-quality AI product. It includes:

  • Discovery and market research, not just requirements gathering
  • One platform (web, mobile, or desktop) with a focused feature set
  • A working AI integration — assistant, document intelligence, or automation
  • Deployment, documentation, and 30 days of post-launch care

What it does not include is everything your product will eventually want. That is the point: an MVP exists to test a thesis, not to fulfil a wishlist.

2. The complete product — ₹3L to ₹8L

Most serious engagements land here. You get multiple user roles, payments, analytics, an admin panel, and AI features that are genuinely wired into the workflow rather than bolted on. Timeline: six to ten weeks with weekly demos.

3. The operated product — build cost plus ₹30K+/month

The product that ships is rarely the product that wins. Our Build + Operate retainer keeps an operations lead, customer care, and monthly reporting on your product after launch — the difference between an app that exists and a business that compounds.

What actually drives AI app cost

  1. The AI feature's tolerance for being wrong. A summarisation tool can be 90% right and still useful. A medical triage bot cannot. Higher stakes mean more guardrails, evaluation, and human review loops — and those cost engineering time.
  2. Integration depth. Calling an LLM API is a weekend project. Grounding it in your data, handling failures gracefully, and keeping latency inside a conversation — that is where the budget goes.
  3. The admin side nobody budgets for. Users, content, refunds, analytics. Roughly a third of every real product.

The cheapest quote is usually the most expensive decision. It assumes you already know exactly what to build — and if you did, you would not need an MVP.

Rules of thumb for 2026

  • AI feature on an existing app: ₹40K–₹1.5L
  • AI-first MVP (one platform): ₹1L–₹2.5L
  • Full-stack product with AI: ₹3L–₹8L
  • Ongoing operations: ₹30K+/month

If a quote is dramatically below these ranges, ask what happens when the AI is wrong, who handles post-launch bugs, and who owns the code. The answers tell you what you are actually buying.

Curious what your specific idea would cost? We will scope it honestly on a free 30-minute call — even if the answer is "you do not need us yet."
