With the DPDP Act 2023 in effect, Indian hospitals face penalties up to ₹250 crore for data protection violations. But most have no way to audit their databases for compliance risks — they don't know what's wrong until they're penalized. The client, a retired IES officer, needed a tool that could connect directly to hospital databases, scan for DPDP compliance risks, and produce legal-grade audit reports — all without sending any data to the cloud.
We built DPDP Shield — an offline-first desktop application that connects to hospital databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, SQLite) in read-only mode and runs 36 compliance checks across 14 DPDP rules. The app generates penalty exposure reports in ₹ Crore, fix guides with copyable SQL examples, and legal evidence PDFs for compliance defense. A companion Next.js website handles downloads and licensing. 100% offline, no cloud, no telemetry.
Designed 36 database-level checks across 14 DPDP rules — covering consent, encryption, data minimisation, retention, access control, audit logs, breach readiness, children's data, and third-party sharing.
Built read-only connectors for PostgreSQL, MySQL, MSSQL, Oracle, and SQLite using a Python sidecar, with query adaptation for each database dialect.
Implemented penalty exposure calculation in ₹ Crore with min–max ranges based on the DPDP Act schedule, plus PDF audit reports, CSV export, and evidence-of-compliance PDFs for legal defense.
Built with Tauri 2 + SvelteKit 5 + Rust + Python sidecar. Machine-locked licensing, keychain password storage, zero telemetry — nothing leaves the hospital's network.

Edifio built a product that solves a real legal problem for Indian hospitals. The offline-first design and read-only database scanning make it safe for even the most security-conscious hospitals. The penalty reports alone are worth the investment.
